Count Down or Count Up

wristMT can be configured to Count Down or to Count Up when using the Match Timer.  A separate general purpose (GP) timer is available and operates in Count Up mode only. Select a timer value of zero (o) to enable the GP Timer which will count to a maximum of 999 seconds.

Display Features

Inbuilt Clock

wristMT displays the current watch time in the header area of the main timer display. There is also a larger clock display that shows the current watch time, date, steps taken and remaining battery. To show the clock, cycle up or down through the list of available match times. The clock will be displayed once the start or the end of the timer values is reached.

Plus7 Active

In Plus7 mode, the shooter starts the timer when the targets turn away. A seven second count down timer will begin before the main match timer starts. This allows the shooter to refocus their attention back onto the match before the targets turn to face and firing commences.

Plus3 Active

Plus3 is aimed at shooters who do not typically use turning targets and prefer to start the match shortly after the "Range is Ready" command. Plus3 as the name implies adds a 3 second count down ahead of the main match timer.

Vibration Active

Start / Stop vibration alerts are enabled and/or Position Change Reminder vibration alerts are enabled.

Sound Active

Start / Stop vibration alerts are enabled and/or Position Change Reminder vibration alerts are enabled.

Activity Recording Active

Activity Recording is enabled. Heart rate, steps taken, distance walked will be recorded and uploaded to Garmin Connect.

  • Enable or disable a setting by pushing the SELECT / START / STOP button
A setting is enabled if the Green Bar is visible as shown in this example. The features and functions that can be configured in the settings menu are described below.

Features & Functions

The Match Select menu is used to choose which match times will be available to select in the the main timer display. This provides flexibility to customise the list to the shooters individual needs. For example:-

  • a shooter may only want to display times from the current match being shot to avoid any possibility of selecting the wrong time or
  • a shooter does not shoot some of the matches so these times can be hidden from view.

The following matches and times are available to be selected:-

  • Bullseye – 600 (10 mins), 20, 10 seconds
  • ISSF 50m – 900 (15 mins) seconds
  • ISSF 25m – 300 & 150 seconds
  • Service – 165, 35, 15, 8, 6 & 4 seconds
  • Service 25 – 210, 25, 6 & 4 seconds
  • WA1500 – 165, 90, 35, 20 & 12 seconds
  • WA48 – 90, 20 & 8 seconds

Quickly enable or disable features such as Sound that should not be used in competition.

Plus Mode allows the shooter to start the wristMT timer before the commencement of match firing. This provides the shooter with two key benefits. Firstly, the shooter can return their attention to the match well in advance of match firing commencing. Secondly, the shooter is not wasting match time by first starting the timer then moving to draw the firearm from the holster. This is particularly beneficial in the shorter timed stages where there is no time to loose.

There are two Plus Modes available – Plus7 and Plus3.

  • Plus7 is designed to allow shooters to start the timer as targets turn to face away for the standard 7 second period. As the name implies, Plus7 adds a seperate 7 second countdown before starting the main match timer.
  • Plus3 is similar to Plus7 but is aimed at shooters who don’t use turning targets. In Plus3 mode the additional countdown period is 3 seconds and allows shooters to start the timer once the range officer gives the command “the line is ready” or similar.
  • Plus Mode can be disabled if not required.

Icons on the display show if Plus Mode is active. By default, the timer digits also change colour when the timer is in the Plus Mode countdown period. This colour can be customised in the settings.

Full Screen Timer

wristMT is designed to use very large fonts to ensure the display is easily readable on the range.  The normal timer font size is the maximum possible that allows 3 digit timer values to fit on the display.

When enabled, full screen mode removes the watch time and Icons from the display and shows the timer value in an even larger font size. With text this large it is only possible to display a maximum of two digits on the display (eg: Timer Values between 0 and 99 seconds).

The normal timer display and font will be used when the timer value is greater than 99 seconds . The display will automatically change to the larger font size and full screen view when the timer value drops to 99 seconds.

Full screen mode is only active while the timer is running.

Choose either UP or DOWN to set the count direction

Play a Chirp Sound as follows:-

  • Plus Mode Off: When the timer countdown reaches the warning time and again at zero (0)
  • Plus Mode On: When the match timer starts (ie: after the 3/7 second plus mode period), and when the timer countdown reaches the warning time and again when the timer countdown reaches zero (o)

Warning Time: The watch will play a chirp sound as the timer approaches zero seconds to warn that match firing is almost over. Early version of wristMT had the warning time set to 10 seconds. In later versions the warning time is user configurable with users able to set a different warning time for each time series greater than 10 seconds.  Warning times are set using the phone application. See the instructions below for Customising Position Change Alerts. for instructions on how to access the wristMT application settings on the Phone.

Note: Sound needs to be enabled globally in the watch settings. Check Settings->System->Sounds->Alert Tones is set to On if you cannot hear any sounds in wristMT

Vibrate the watch as follows:-

  • Plus Mode Off: When the timer countdown reaches the warning time and again at zero (0)
  • Plus Mode On: When the match timer starts (ie: after the 3/7 second plus mode period), and when the timer countdown reaches the warning time and again when the timer countdown reaches zero (o)

Warning Time: The watch will vibrate as the timer approaches zero seconds to warn that match firing is almost over.

Note: Vibration needs to be enabled globally in the watch settings. Check Settings->System->Sounds->Vibration is set to On if wristMT does not vibrate

Sets the duration of audible and vibration alerts to be either Long (approx 1 second) or Short (approx 0.5 seconds).

wristMT can be configured to alert the user via sound and/or vibration when position changes and reloads should occur in multi-position stages.

By default, alerts are configured to occur at evenly spaced intervals however this can be customised. (See: Customising Position Change Alerts)

Example: The WA1500 165 second series requires the shooter to shoot 24 shots in four (4) different positions. The default alerts are evenly spaced and will occur as follows :-

  • Alert 1 – 124 seconds
  • Alert 2 – 83 seconds
  • Alert 3 – 41 seconds
  • Alert 4 – 10 seconds

Alert 4 is a warning that the stage is almost over and there are only 10 seconds to go.

Default Alert Intervals

  • 210 Second Stage – 168, 126,84,42,10
  • 165 Second Stage – 124, 83, 41, 10
  • 90 Second Stage – 60, 30, 10
  • 35 Second Stage – 18
  • 25 Second Stage – 13
  • 20 Second Stage – 10

Note: The alert times are rounded to the nearest whole second.

The settings menu includes an option to reset alerts to the default values if they have been customised.

Enabling this option will keep the watch’s backlight on while the timer is running. The backlight will timeout as per normal if the timer is stopped or reset to avoid draining the battery.

Enabling Activity Recording allows the application to record metrics such as Heart Rate & Steps taken.

See Garmin Connect Activities for more information.

When enabled, wristMT will record:-

  • Heart Rate
  • Temperature & Elevation
  • Steps Taken
  • Distance Covered
  • Periods of timer activity

This data is uploaded to the shooter’s Garmin Connect account when quitting the application. It can be viewed along side other watch activities such as running, cycling, or swimming.

Using the Garmin Connect website, shooters will be able to:-

  • See graphs of key metrics such as heart rate, steps taken and distance covered
  • Overlay one graph on another to get insight into how the anticipation of match firing or walking up and down range is impacting heart rate
  • View other data about their shooting session including steps taken and distance covered

Users will be given the option to Save or Discard Activity data when exiting the application.
